Ethos String Orchestra/Camerata Auditions
Auditions for the Ethos string orchestras are Saturday, August 27 at First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro.

Audition Requirements
The auditions for both orchestras consist of scales, a prepared solo, and sight reading. Specific requirements for each ensemble are below.
CAMERATA AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
- Scales
- Violin: Two octave scales – G, A, and B-flat; One octave scales – C, D, and F
- Viola: Two octave scales – C and D; One octave scales – F, G, A, and B-flat
- Cello: Two octave scales – C and D; One octave scales – F, G, A, and B-flat
- Bass: G, A, Bb, C (1 octave)
- Prepared Solo
This should be representative of the student’s overall musical and technical ability and approximately one minute in length. In general, students who qualify for admission into the Camerata Ensemble will be able to play a piece with a difficulty level similar to those found in Suzuki Book 1. Bring an extra copy of your solo music to the audition.
Students who were in Ethos Academy 2 Class Last Year – you may play any of the pieces you learned in Academy 2 last year as your prepared solo.
If you do not have access to a prepared solo of your own, students may choose one of these:
Violin: vln audition materials
Viola: vla audition materials
Cello: cello audition materials
Bass: bass audition materials
- Sight Reading
All students will be asked to sight-read 1 to 3 short selections. These will be provided at the audition. Students should have experience reading a variety of rhythms including whole, half, eighth, and sixteenth notes.
CHAMBER ORCHESTRA/PHILHARMONIC AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
- Scales
All instruments should be prepared to play two octave scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats.
- Prepared Solo
This should be representative of the student’s overall musical and technical ability and approximately one minute in length. In general, students who qualify for admission into the Youth Ensemble will be able to play a piece with a difficulty level similar to those found in Suzuki Book 3. Bring an extra copy of your solo music to the audition.
- Sight Reading
All students will be asked to sight-read 1 to 3 short selections. These will be provided at the audition. Students should have experience reading a variety of rhythms and time signatures, including dotted rhythms, cut time, and 6/8 time.
